Hobby Recommendations

These are some of my hobbies that I do and love, so maybe this can be some inspiration for when you are bored.

Crochet- I started crocheting a few years ago and I think it is so fun and relaxing. This is something that takes a while to get the hang of, so don't expect to make a huge perfect project the first time you crochet. I really recommend watching YouTube videos for quick and easy tutorials for beginners. I started with practicing with different stitches and yarn types. Learning how to work with yarn makes creating projects way easier.

Reading- I never used to like reading because I didn't know what to read. My biggest recommendation for finding a book that you will actually enjoy, is to read books that are similar to movies or TV shows that you like. I am currently reading Perks of Being a Wallflower and it is really good. I would recommend it for young adults in high school.

Cooking/Baking- This hobby has some ups and downs to it. While it can be fun to make different foods, it does come with a lot of dishes. I am personally more of a baker than a chef however I enjoy making easy small meals. I have a delicious way of making boxed brownie mix. I use chocolate syrup instead of water, this makes them more fudgy and chocolaty. Or if you want to bake without a ton of dishes, or just something single serve. I recommend mug cakes, they are quick and easy to make. They are a little tricky to get the right recipe and the correct amount of time cooking, but I love them.

Sports- I play many sports, including volleyball, cheer leading, and track & field. Volleyball is my main sport, since I am tall I am usually in the front row. Sports are a great way to stay active in a fun way, and also to meet new people. Sports don't have to be through your school or a club, so don't let that stop you. If you have a pool or are near a beach, you can go swimming and get a workout from that. There are lots of ways and places you can get exercise.

I hope some of these hobbies inspired you to do something with your day today or helped choose a new one that you will do more often.

What to bring to high school

Some things that aren't on the required supply list but are necessary. Bring these things to be prepared for all situations.

Gum- Preferably a minty kind to freshen up your breath after lunch but whatever you like. Also bring a big pack so you can share with friends.

A water bottle- You will get thirsty during PE class and you will get thirsty but school water never tastes good. You can get cute ones and decorate them with stickers.

Wireless earbuds-  Listening to music will make class feel like it goes by so much faster. Having them be wireless makes it easier to sneak them in if they aren't allowed.

A change of clothes- You never know when you might need to change so keeping a spare outfit can save you. Most schools let you keep clothes in a gym locker, if not you can keep them in a teachers classroom or in your personal locker.

Lint roller- If you have pets you will probably be covered in hair so being able to quickly clean up your outfit will be so convenient.

Hairbrush/Hair ties- You will have PE class and want to keep your hair up or smooth it out after class. In science labs you will have to put your hair up.

Chargers- Having any of your electronics die is so annoying halfway through the day.

Body spray/Deodorant- You will get sweaty and stinky, and no one likes smelling bad. Sometimes you will forget to put on deodorant in the morning before school.

Pads/Tampons- Sometimes your period will come on a random day so you will want to be prepared or you can help a girl out if they need one. The school products usually cost money and are really uncomfortable so it's better to bring products you are used to using.

A snack- Having a small bite to eat in between classes can curb your hunger until lunch and make the day go by smoother. Also If you go to anything after school like a club or sport having a snack is the perfect pick me up.

These things may vary for whatever you personally need, but being prepared for school to have the best year ever is what is important. 💖
